WALKING THE CAMINO PORTUGUÉS: THE IRL ARRIVES IN SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

In July 2021, David Glowacki set off from Porto, Portugal, on the beautiful coastal route of the Camino Portugués, one of the 1000-year-old pilgrim pathways that converge at the Cathedral of Santiago De Compostela in Galicia, Spain.

The IRL has an active node in the mountains of Northern Portugal, so Dave was met by IRL collaborators Rachel Freire, Jamie Pike and Kara De Los Reyes just before the Spanish border. The team walked the last 130km together over seven days, arriving at Santiago De Compostela on St. James’ day!

We will soon open the doors to our new lab HQ in CiTIUS (The Centre for Intelligent Technologies) at the University of Santiago De Compostela. There seemed no better way to arrive than walking this beautiful route - to found a multi-disciplinary VR lab, blending ancient and modern - than by honouring the traditional way one should arrive in Santiago.

We were met by a film crew on our route who wanted to capture some of the journey and talk to Dave about the founding of the lab and our practice. Watch this space!
